The show committee reserves the right to make decisions/resolutions not directly addressed in these show rules or in ADGA/MGDA’s rules. The show committee’s decision is final.
Submitting an entry indicates the exhibitor’s acceptance to abide by all rules stated below.
General Show Rules and Information:
The show is sanctioned by the American Dairy Goat Association and the Miniature Dairy Goat Association and their rules shall govern their respective shows. For ADGA, there are two open junior doe shows and two youth junior doe shows. All ADGA open junior doe shows are sanctioned separately for Nigerian Dwarfs and AOP, all ADGA youth junior doe shows are sanctioned separately for Nigerian Dwarfs and AOP. For MDGA, there are two junior doe shows. All MDGA shows are sanctioned for Miniature Nubians only. The base date for computing the age of the animal entered is the show date.
There is no CVI requirement to show. However, any herds who show signs of disease or sickness will not be allowed to show and will be asked to leave the premises. The show committee has the final decision regarding the health of all goats present. Exhibitors are responsible for following all other regulated health certificate requirements in regards to travel.
The original registration certificate (or stamped duplicate per ADGA's rules/other form of identification as per MDGA’s rules) is required for all goats. Animals with natural horns may not be shown.
Check-in will begin at approximately 9:00 AM at the secretary table. Judging will begin at 10:00 AM sharp. There is not a required time to be on the premises, but the show will not wait.
The show is rain or shine. Please make arrangements for yourself and your goats if the weather is risky.
The show is being held at a private home. Please respect the property and property owner’s privacy. Do not open gates, enter barns, or touch any animals.
Pens are not provided. Straw/shavings are not provided. You must show out of your truck/trailer/personal pen(s). Personal pens may be set up near the show ring for ease of showing on a first come, first served basis. Areas should be reasonably cleaned before leaving.
Show property owners or affiliates will not be responsible for loss, damage, or accident to any person or property. Show entry/attendance indicates acceptance of this.
Dogs or any other unnecessary animals/pets are not permitted on the grounds unless given permission by the show committee.. If you bring an animal determined unnecessary by the show committee, you will be required to leave the premises, forfeit all fees paid, and scratch all goats entered.
Entry Rules:
The entry form will be available online at https://www.crookedoakfarmsc.com/shows approximately 30 days before the show date. Exceptions to entry rules may occur if there is a risk of not making sanction as determined by the show committee.
There will be no refunds given for scratched goats.
Substitutions may be made up until the Tuesday before the show at 6 PM. Substitutions are required to be submitted via a provided digital form ONLY. No substitutions via messenger or text will be accepted. There will be NO substitutions allowed after this, even on show day.
Youth Rules:
Youth shows are for a child (18 years of age or under) who is actively involved in the day-to-day care and management of a herd owned by their parent(s)/guardian(s) and themselves. This includes but is not limited to: participation in breeding decisions, being present for kidding, bottle feeding, daily chores, feed knowledge, show prep, and familiarity with pedigrees. Youth entering goats in youth shows must live at the home where the herd lives, otherwise it is impossible to be involved to the level we require. If that level of involvement is not present, you are not eligible to enter youth shows per our rules. We do not require the goat to be in the name of the exhibitor.
If an eligible youth exhibitor has more goats than they can show, they may bring other youth to assist or ask for help from youth present and ready to show that day.
If an active 4-H dairy goat project member does not personally own a goat meeting the above requirements to enter in a youth show, they will be given first priority to handle goats for other farms meeting the requirements with entries in youth shows. 4-H members (and any other youth not meeting the above requirements) are always welcome to enter open shows with any eligible goat regardless of their level of involvement in care.
Youth shows are not intended for herd owners who know someone the correct age to show in youth, who have a family member the correct age to show in youth, or who hire someone the correct age to show in youth.
The show committee reserves the right to approve or deny any youth show entries based on the criteria above.
Show Ring Rules and Expectations:
When applicable, goats should be shown with an appropriate amount of milk in their udders. Over uddered and/or leaking does will be asked to leave the ring at the discretion of the show committee or judge. We do not have a designated milk out break, exhibitors are responsible for managing udders during their downtime.
To ensure the show ends at a reasonable time and runs efficiently, judges will place the top 10 animals in each class and give reasons for the top 6. Exhibitors who would like more information about the placings of their goats may ask questions at the completion of the show.
Please be ringside and ready to show by the start of your goats’ classes. If a goat is not ringside at the start of its class, the show will not wait. Please bring or request appropriate help for multiple goats and/or back to back classes. Handlers are required to know the names of goats being presented.
We do not have a dress code requirement to show.
Conduct Rules:
Correct conduct is required before/during/after the show. If you exhibit unsportsmanlike conduct, are deemed rude to show staff/judges, argue with show staff/judges, email/message/call with disrespectful comments, or are otherwise inappropriate as determined by the show committee, you will forfeit all fees paid, we will scratch your entries, and you will not be allowed to attend/be required to leave. This rule applies to anyone present at a show- in or out of the ring. We have a zero-tolerance policy. We are required to follow all rules and regulations of the registry(s) the show is sanctioned with in addition to the show rules in this document and will do so to the best of our abilities.

There is no per show entry, one flat fee per goat covers ALL applicable shows.

Show Schedule:
The show schedule is subject to change at the discretion of the show committee.

Judging begins at 10:00 AM sharp.
The judges will rotate rings. Each sanctioned show will be judged twice, once with each judge.
